Main Street & Destination Management Assistant Director - City of Seguin

The Seguin team is seeking an Assistant Director to oversee downtown revitalization, our Main Street program, and tourism programs. This position will assist in the supervision of two staff members, coordinate promotion activities and beautification projects for downtown Seguin, and work with the Director to promote Seguin as a destination for overnight visitors. We are a small but mighty team looking for someone to help us as we continue to see tremendous growth in our community.

Essential Duties

  • Prepares agendas and supporting documents for the Seguin Commission on the Arts and Main Street Advisory Board with consultation from the Director;
  • Assists Director in developing annual marketing and advertising plan;
  • Prepares requests for proposals and garners bids for department purchases;
  • Launch and maintain a volunteer docent program;
  • Assists Director in preparing Council presentations and agenda items;
  • Makes presentations to civic organizations and City Council when the Director is not available;
  • Reviews and makes recommendations on incentive applications, sponsorship requests and marketing contracts;
  • Recruits sponsors for events and fulfillment of sponsorship benefits;
  • Assists in supervising and assigning tasks to department staff;
  • Develops recruitment events like FAM tours and sales calls;
  • Assists downtown association and coordinates downtown activities;
  • Coordinates promotion activities for downtown and certain parks activities, including sales promotions, special events such as parades or Christmas lighting, printed materials and on-going public relations;
  • Works with public and private sector organizations in beautification, landscaping and public improvement projects;
  • Attends tradeshows representing the City of Seguin to recruit tourists, meetings, group tours and tournaments to Seguin;
  • Does monthly visits with hotels and attractions;
  • Assists in planning and organizing special events hosted by the department;
  • Oversees City of Seguin’s filming permit process and actively works on recruiting filming to the area;
  • Prepares editorial content and press releases as needed;
  • Establishes and maintains manual and/or computerized office files and records; may be responsible for sensitive or confidential files;
  • May assist with conference registration and travel arrangements;
  • Oversees social media outlets at the direction of the Director;
  • Composes routine written reports, memos, correspondence, forms and/or news releases;
  • Proofreads and edits newsletters, brochures, fliers, technical reports, proclamations, contracts, correspondence, etc;
  • Uses personal computer to prepare, develop, and/or maintain forms, rosters, mailing lists, mail outs, reports, letters, memos, documents, grant applications, contracts, budgets, brochures, fliers, etc.;
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
