The City of Victoria is currently searching for our next Assistant Director for the Convention and Visitors Bureau. The successful candidate will assist the CVB Director with the overall management of the department and the continued realization of its mission. This position will assist with departmental budget and overall marketing strategy development. It will be a highly visible position, presenting to the Victoria City Council on occasion as well as community groups. A major role for the Assistant Director is to manage the department’s community partnerships and outreach efforts. In addition to the CVB Director, the position will serve as another face of the department to the public, and it will provide direct supervision to CVB administrative level staff and volunteers.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Acts as Department Head in the absence of the Director
Assists CVB Director with preparation and administration of the annual CVB budgets funded from hotel occupancy taxes
Manages activities and responsibilities of administrative level CVB staff and volunteers
Manage departmental reporting on Victoria tourism industry performance through visitor intelligence programs
Oversee Texas Film Friendly and Texas Music Friendly Community programs through the Office of the Texas Governor
Manage departmental sponsorships for sports events, meetings & conventions, and community tourism partners
Oversee departmental collaborations with Parks and Recreation Sports Tourism Manager for promotion of sports tourism development in Victoria
Identify and oversee event enhancement opportunities with other City departments, community tourism partners, and local businesses
Create and manage local promotional programs and contests
Organize familiarization tours for meetings site selectors and travel writers
Leverage local media relationships to promote awareness of economic impact events
Coordinate generation of articles and press releases with Communications and Public Affairs department
Develop and implement local ambassador program to improve resident knowledge of Victoria tourism industry
Develop and manage Victoria tourism industry and customer service training program in partnership with University of Houston-Victoria
Manage content creation for bi-monthly Victoria tourism promotion video series
Manage satellite visitor information sources e.g., the Victoria Regional Airport Concierge Center
Provide presentations to community groups on the role of CVB as part of economic development and the impact of travel to the community
Staff travel trade and consumer travel shows/exhibitions as requested by the director
Attend educational conferences and professional continuing education as opportunities arise Maintain in-depth knowledge of local accommodations, meeting space, restaurants, and attractions
Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
Performs all other job-related duties as assigned or as become apparent
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a standard office environment.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE GUIDELINES
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation, Parks and Tourism Sciences, Hospitality and Tourism Administration/Management, Marketing, or Business Administration. Minimum four years in a destination marketing organization, in the hospitality industry, in a professional marketing position, in tour operations or public relations, including two years in a management and supervisory capacity, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Tourism industry and the role of a convention & visitors bureau/destination marketing organization.
Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.
General office policies, procedures, and practices.
Understand technical materials, reports, and journals, including budget information.
Records maintenance and retention practices and procedures.
Knowledge and general use of multiple social media platforms – Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Youtube.
Basic finance practices such as budgeting and accounting.
Interacting tactfully and professionally with City staff, outside agencies, media, and the public.
Organizing work and setting priorities to meet deadlines.
Working on multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
Planning, organizing, and effectively presenting ideas and concepts to groups of varying size.
Preparing clear and concise reports.
Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
Establish and maintain effective employee and community relations.
Comfortable with making public presentations.
Comfortable appearing on camera and on radio recordings or live broadcasts.
Analyze, plan and effectively present ideas and concepts.
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs – Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams.
Proficient in Adobe Reader and Acrobat.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite programs not required but would be a plus – Photoshop, Premiere.
Ability to learn and effectively use CVB website content management system.
Possess writing, editing and proofreading skills.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
A valid State driver’s license may be required.
