TACVB’s Sales Blitz will be held on March 1, 2018, following the TACVB Sales Symposium on February 27-28, 2018. The Sales Blitz provides cooperative action to enhance and encourage the use of convention and visitor bureaus by Texas meeting planners.

You do not need to be registered for the Sales Symposium to participate in the Blitz, however, it is highly recommended. In 2018 only, you also do not need to be a current TxMET subscriber to participate in the Sales Blitz. Any staff from DMOs that are current TxMET subscribers will receive a discount on Sales Blitz registration.

How Will the Sales Blitz Work?

TACVB staff and the Sales Blitz Task Force will form teams of 3 from those who have registered for the Sales Blitz. Team members’ geography, size of market, and sales experience will be used to form the teams. Staff and the Sales Blitz Task Force will also assign a team lead for each participating team. The Sales Blitz will be limited to no more than 17 teams (or 51 total participants).

We will mine the recently updated TxMET database for organizations in Austin to develop a master list of possible sales calls. Those organizations will be grouped geographically (e.g., North Austin, downtown, etc.), and each Blitz team will receive a list of organizations to contact roughly 3 weeks in advance of the Sales Blitz.

Blitz teams are responsible for contacting the meeting planners on their list to set up appointments on March 1, 2018. Appointments may be scheduled between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm, and should last about 15-20 minutes in duration. Each team should be able to schedule 4-5 appointments during the morning, and another 4-5 appointments in the afternoon.

Objectives of the Blitz

  1. Form teams of DMO sales professionals to make calls on Austin-based organizations.
  2. Promote the use of DMOs by meeting planners.
  3. Educate meeting planners about the DMO industry and the value of using DMOs.
  4. Generate new and updated information for TACVB’s Texas Meetings & Event Tracking (TxMET) platform.
  5. Represent all Texas DMOs and TACVB on this blitz, not individual cities.

During the Blitz

Each team will be provided with a contact sheet that contains the logos and contact information of each Blitz participant (and their DMO) to leave with each meeting planner. This will help give additional exposure to participating DMOs. TACVB will also provide the teams with a TACVB-branded “thank you” gift to present to each planner.

What Happens After the Blitz?

Following the Blitz, your team is expected to turn in the information gathered during your appointments so it can be entered and shared among the participants. Each participant will receive a spreadsheet that contains the contact information of every meeting planner who was contacted by a team. TxMET subscribers will have the added benefit of being able to access this information in addition to details on each organizations’ meetings through our new TxMET platform.
