The Mineral Wells Area Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau is seeking a creative, community-minded leader to serve as our next Director of Tourism. This position is responsible for tourism marketing, group sales, visitor engagement, and event promotion for Mineral Wells and Palo Pinto County—working to increase economic impact through tourism and share the story of Texas’ Wellness Capital.

Lead destination marketing and digital campaigns for a historic, outdoor-driven Texas town
Collaborate with local businesses, lodging partners, and event organizers
Represent Mineral Wells at travel shows and conferences
Oversee the Visit Mineral Wells website, social media, and visitor center
Manage group sales, FAM tours, and tourism-related events
Administer Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) grants and annual tourism budget

Requirements:
High school diploma required; college degree in marketing, tourism, or related field preferred
Proven experience in tourism, marketing, hospitality, events, or similar roles
Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills
Familiarity with Canva, Google Analytics, Mailchimp, and social platforms
Understanding of HOT funds or public sector grants is a plus

Work Hours: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM, M–F (some evenings/weekends required)

The Director of Tourism leads tourism development and destination marketing efforts for Mineral Wells and Palo Pinto County. This position drives growth in visitor spending, promotes the area’s unique assets, and builds partnerships across the region. The Director manages all aspects of tourism marketing, group sales, visitor services, and event promotion, helping position Mineral Wells as a premier Texas destination.

Key Responsibilities

Marketing & Promotion

Develop and manage tourism advertising, print materials, and digital campaigns
Serve as editor for all tourism publications including maps, guides, and brochures
Build and maintain relationships with media, travel writers, and tourism partners
Represent Mineral Wells at conferences, travel shows, and industry events
Submit local stories and events to regional and statewide tourism publications

Digital Presence
Manage Visit Mineral Wells and Fossil Park websites, ensuring content accuracy, SEO, and analytics tracking
Maintain active tourism social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram) with engaging and timely content
Regularly update lodging, dining, and events listings

Visitor Services & Group Sales
Lead outreach to tour operators, event planners, and travel groups
Create and respond to RFPs in partnership with hotels, venues, and attractions
Manage the Visitor Center, including staffing, materials, and merchandise
Maintain a current resource directory for local accommodations, restaurants, caterers, venues, and events
Events & Community Engagement
Plan and promote tourism-related events and festivals
Coordinate event logistics including sponsors, signage, volunteers, and printed materials
Support local event organizers with cooperative marketing and promotional assistance
Attend tourism events across Palo Pinto County as a representative of the Chamber & Visitors Bureau

Administrative Leadership
Serve as staff liaison to the Tourism Advisory Board; prepare agendas, budgets, reports, and meeting materials
Oversee the HOT Grant process, including education, evaluation, and compliance
Develop and manage the annual tourism budget in collaboration with the Chamber Board
Provide regular reporting on tourism activity, marketing performance, and visitor engagement metrics

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required
College degree in marketing, communications, hospitality, tourism, or a related field preferred
Demonstrated experience in tourism, hospitality, destination marketing, or related field
Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills
Knowledge of tourism trends, marketing platforms, and economic impact strategies
Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
Familiarity with HOT funding rules and experience working with grant programs is a plus
Proficiency with tools such as Canva, Square, Google Analytics, Mailchimp, and major social media platforms, and PlacerAI

Preferred Skills
Experience in tourism, destination marketing, or hospitality/group sales
Public speaking and presentation experience
Basic graphic design or digital marketing skills
Knowledge of Mineral Wells/Palo Pinto County region a plus
