SUMMARY of POSITION:

Chief executive ultimately responsible for the total operations of the Denton Chamber of Commerce, and all affiliates, including the Economic Development Department, Leadership Denton, Convention & Visitors Bureau, Discover Denton Welcome Center, Denton Radio.Com and Denton County Days in Austin. Serves as the primary staff point of contact for the officers, board of directors, elected and higher education officials.

EDUCATION & REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Communications, Marketing, Public Administration or related field
  • Association management certification, or working on one preferred
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, comfortable making public presentations
  • Ability to efficiently handle multi-tasked operations
  • PC and word-processing experience (to include Microsoft Office, Publisher and Excel) - Ability to be flexible with regard to business hours and accepting new responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recommend and implement policies of the board of directors
  • Serve as a consultant to the Chair of the Board, Board and provide leadership in the formulation of objectives, programs, and policies
  • Supervise all central staff and affiliate vice presidents
  • Supervise the coordination of all general membership events, projects and activities.
  • Establish and maintain a satisfactory working relationship with community leaders, public officials, private and public agencies.
  • Accountable for the finances of the organization, including budget preparation, presentation to the Board, control and audit of the approved budget. Approve disbursements, co-sign checks with the officers and maintain general control of expenditures.
  • Develop sources of non-dues revenue for the organization
  • Provide upkeep of facilities and equipment, assure efficient operation of the “Front Door to Denton.”
  • Advocate, recruit, and motivate volunteers.

IDEAL BACKGROUND, TRAITS and EXPERIENCE:

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 10 years executive management experience in a public entity, private business, corporate environment, or non-profit organization.

Additionally, community involvement through board service and experience managing complex operations is a plus.

The preferred candidate will demonstrate competence and a basic understanding of: · Non-Profit, volunteer-driven association dynamics · All levels of Government, but specifically Municipal and State · Economic Development marketing and Commercial Real Estate trends · Leading, while respecting the authority and boundaries of a volunteer Board of Directors · Non-partisan, political awareness

Responsibilities that currently require significant direct attention in varying degrees daily, and, will be considered by the Selection Committee:

Economic Development (15%)
Experience in corporate recruitment, and understanding of commercial real estate transactions. Understanding of public utilities infrastructure. Able to present public incentive options, articulate application support.

Hospitality Industry (15%)
Experience with Convention & Visitor Bureaus, group sales and support, tourism promotion. Responsible for off-site visitor center and internet radio station.

Government Relations (45%)
Experience and understanding of the governmental process at all levels, familiarity with advocacy on behalf of chamber positions. Maintain professionalism in relating to public officials at all levels. Maintain non-partisan awareness of the local political environment, and it effect on chamber activities and operations.

Fund-Raising (25%)
Experience in sales, especially memberships. Ability to organize events with revenue development opportunities.
