Like you, TACVB is heartbroken at the losses suffered by our friends and neighbors along the Texas Gulf Coast. But as we’ve seen in the news, Texans are doing what Texans do. We’re pulling together and offering help and resources however possible. We Texans are a strong and proud group of people, and while the road to recovery will be long, we will overcome this.

TACVB will be making a donation to the American Red Cross from our “Friends of Travel Give Back” fund. We are open to ideas on other ways that we can help as an organization.

Below is a list of organizations (source: Texas Downtown Association) that are accepting donations of various kinds. If you are so inclined, we encourage you to give.

  1. FEMA - Federal Emergency Management Agency
    Anyone affected by Harvey should register with FEMA as soon as possible. You can register online by using this link www.disasterassistance.gov or call 1-800-621-3362 (FEMA). Disaster assistance applicants who have a speech disability or hearing loss and use TTY, should call 1-800-462-7585 directly; for those who use 711 or Video Relay Service (VRS), call 1-800-621-3362. The toll-free telephone numbers will operate from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (local time) seven days a week until further notice.
  2. DISASTER DISTRESS HOTLINE - SAMHSA
    Stress during events like this take their toll on mental health in addition to physical health. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) hosts a disaster distress helpline – just call 1-800-985-5990 or text TalkWithUs to 66746.
  3. RED CROSS
    Visit their website redcross.org, call 1-800-RED CROSS or text the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation. See links below for information about local chapters.

    Central & South Texas - Red Cross
  5. UNITED WAY
    Text UWFLOOD to 41444 to donate to the United Way Flood Relief Fund
  6. CATHOLIC CHARITIES USA
    Text CCUSADISASTER to 71777 to donate or visit their website catholiccharitiesusa.org for more details.
  7. SALVATION ARMY
    You can donate cash online at disaster.salvationarmyusa.org or by phone at 1-800-725-2769.
  8. TEXAS DIAPER BANK
    Diapers are not provided by disaster relief agencies. To alleviate that need, the TDB is requesting donations of cash and diapers to provide emergency diaper kits for families that are being displaced due to Hurricane Harvey. Visit the donation page at texasdiaperbank.org and designate your donation for Disaster Relief.
  9. FEEDING TEXAS
    Feeding Texas, formerly known as the Texas Food Bank Network (TFBN) is a statewide, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that serves the statewide network of food banks: www.feedingtexas.org.
  10. COASTAL BEND DISASTER RECOVERY GROUP
    The Coastal Bend Disaster Recovery Group is a nonprofit organization that provides long-term help to areas recovering from natural disasters: www.coastalbendcan.org
  11. COALITION FOR THE HOMELESS
    The Coalition for the Homeless of Houston/Harris County is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide leadership in the development, advocacy, and coordination of community strategies to prevent and end homelessness: www.homelesshouston.org
  12. PORTLIGHT
    Portlight Strategies, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization, founded in 1997 to facilitate a variety of projects involving people with disabilities, including post-disaster relief work: www.portlight.org
  13. AUSTIN PETS ALIVE!
    APA is an Austin based animal rescue nonprofit that is providing support and assistance to pets and owners who have evacuated: www.austinpetsalive.org
  14. SPCA OF TEXAS
    SPCA chapters across the state are providing shelter for evacuated animals: www.spca.org
  15. REBUILD TEXAS FUND - The Michael and Susan Dell Foundation is leading the charge to raise $100 million for the fund. www.rebuildtx.org/

There are some local efforts in the affected areas as well.

  1. In Rockport Fulton, the Chamber of Commerce has launched a Go Fund Me effort to #RebuildRockportFulton. 100% of the proceeds will go toward recovery efforts. To donate, click here.
  2.  In Port Aransas, there is the Official Port A Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund. To make a donation, click here.
