TACVB is pleased to announce the third seminar in our Destination Marketing Principles (DMP) series. The Allen DMP on June 22nd at the Hilton Garden Inn Dallas/Allen.

 

Join us for a tour, the ability to earn TDM credits, and excellent bonus sessions designed to provide you with tools you can use right away. This DMP is jam packed with opportunities to learn and earn valuable TDM credits!

 

The most important aspect of these seminars, however, is the portion on destination marketing principles. Destination Marketing Principles is designed especially for local and regional DMO staff, hotel and attractions partners, elected officials, board members, and volunteers and advocates. The seminar is beneficial to anyone involved in promoting a destination to visitors.

 

Topics included in the Destination Marketing Principles portion are:

  • Structure and funding of DMOs
  • Proper use of the hotel occupancy tax
  • DMO responsibilities
  • Types of products/markets sold by DMOs
  • How DMOs serve a community
  • Marketing, advertising, and promotions
  • DMO issues and challenges
  • Measurements for success
  • DMO leadership (Boards, councils, committees, commissions, etc.)
  • Crisis management
  • Key trends and strategies
  • Information on getting involved with TACVB

Additional Education Sessions

During lunch, get ready for a session on “Digital Advertising Best Practices and How to Measure the Success of a Digital Media Campaign" from Lee Warnock with Orange142. This presentation focuses on the different ways to measure Key Performance Indicators and identify the successes of digital advertising campaign tactics including: paid search, social advertising, banners, video ads and more. We will cover what tactics to use and when, what pitfalls to watch out for, and how to vet your vendors. We will also discuss how to properly measure conversions, track time on page, audience engagement, and how to best utilize Google Analytics to measure engagement and success rates with advertising campaigns.

 

Our first afternoon session will cover marketing with a small staff. Entitled “Marketing: Party of One”, this session will focus small CVB staffs who wear many hats, especially when it comes to marketing and communications. We’ll discuss tips, tricks and best practices for making the most of your small marketing team (even if it’s a team of one). From balancing social media to digital marketing to communications and more, we’ll talk about lessons learned and the latest tools to help you optimize your time.

 

Heritage Tour

Next, we’re featuring two great sessions from VisitDallas. The first is on the “All Sides Dallas Leisure Marketing Campaign". Based on qualitative and quantitative research, the marketing team developed a new campaign to encourage visitation to Dallas. The Big Things Happen Here campaign was very successful in giving the city a brand and tag line. The new campaign, All Sides of Dallas, better defines Dallas and surrounding areas as a tourist destination and moves from a generic approach to a specific approach. The second VisitDallas session is entitled “Locals Campaign - #DallasBigMoments" VisitDallas has launched a campaign designed to inspire locals from all over North Texas to rediscover Dallas. In the age of "take a picture or it didn't happen," VisitDallas has gone all in with #DallasBigMoments, inspiring locals to become tourists in their own city. The campaign will stretch all summer long, from May 8 - September 30, which will include inspirational and engaging content, plus a mix of feature stories from a select group of local influencers that will help amplify the message.  

 

This DMP will also feature a tour on June 21st that highlights an historic project within the City of Allen.  The Allen Historic Water Station is a Texas State Archaeological Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. We will tour the interpretive trail through Allen's historic Houston and Texas Central Railway Water Station located within Allen Station Park that showcases the preservation of the existing historic features, including the last known remaining Stone Dam from the Steam engine era built in 1873, water tower foundations, interpretative trail, signage and overlooks.  The tour also includes a tour of the Allen Train Depot and Allen Heritage Village.
