Professional Development Grant Program

Application follows the program outline.

Purpose

The TACVB Professional Development Grant Program was established in 2003 by the TACVB Board of Directors. The purpose of the fund is to support the convention and visitor bureau industry of Texas through the equipping of CVB professionals and staff at all employment levels. The fund provides student and professional development scholarships to current employees of TACVB member convention and visitor bureaus, with the intention of furthering the knowledge and understanding of the convention and visitor bureau industry, and to promote career development for individuals who wish to positively influence the field on an ongoing basis.

Up to three (3) scholarships will be awarded annually, with one (1) of these scholarships designated as they Bob Conwell Professional Development Grant, in honor of Mr. Bob Conwell, one of the Texas tourism's early leaders.

Award
The award is intended to be used for tuition, fees and books for the awardee(s). The award may be reapplied for up to three (3) years as long as a minimum 2.5 GPA is maintained in the higher education forum or the minimum certification requirements are met in the professional development forum. Distribution of the award will be made by the TACVB Board of Directors to the Texas university, Texas college, or professional development certification of the awardees' choice for distribution through their accounting system. Professional development program options must be relative to the travel and tourism industry and career field and must be certified by a recognized travel industry association or organization within the United States of America.

Eligibility
Persons eligible for the award must meet the following criteria:

For the University/College Student Applicant
  1. Currently enrolled in an accredited Texas University/College as an undergraduate or graduate student
  2. Have an official transcript from that accredited University/College with a minimum 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  3. Must be taking a minimum of three (3) credit hours
  4. Must be employed by a TACVB member convention and visitor bureau, and must maintain employment at a TACVB member convention and visitor bureau throughout the semester for which tuition will be reimbursed. The TACVB Board of Directors will have sole discretion over any instance in which an applicant experiences a disruption in employment during the award period, including the option of disqualifying the applicant.
For the Professional Development Certification Applicant
  1. Must provide registration paperwork for the professional development program that clearly states the certifying association or organization's formal name
  2. Must provide an overview of the course content and the expected outcome
  3. Certification program must have a clearly-defined connection to the travel and tourism industry
  4. Must be employed by a TACVB member convention and visitor bureau, and must maintain employment at a TACVB member convention and visitor bureau throughout the semester for which tuition will be reimbursed. The TACVB Board of Directors will have sole discretion over any instance in which an applicant experiences a disruption in employment during the award period, including the option of disqualifying the applicant.
Application Process
(Please read fully and complete all steps)
  • Prospective grant recipients will be required to complete an application form furnished by the TACVB Board of Directors
  • Inclusion of current resume
  • Inclusion of two (2) letters of recommendation
  • Inclusion of official transcript(s) (if applying for Texas University/College grant)
  • Inclusion of 250-word essay by applicant encompassing their career goals and why they would benefit from the TACVB Professional Development Grant
  • Award recipients may apply for continuance of the scholarship fund for up to three (3) years. Such application will be made by a date specified by the TACVB Board of Directors
  • Grants are valid for one (1) school year or one (1) professional development certification only. Award recipients must reapply if they want to be considered for future grants.
Administration
Applications for the TACVB Professional Development Fund Grant will be made to the TACVB Board of Directors for final selection.

A minimum of one (1) grant in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded annually for University/College students, or up to $1,000 for professional development program applications, depending on program costs, materials and travel expenses required to participate in program.

The award will be made in March by issue of certificate of award, and the money will be made available immediately, to be paid directly to the school or certification program. For certification programs, TACVB must receive copy of certification program application to submit payment to professional development certification organization. For materials and travel expenses reimbursements, application must invoice TACVB and provide copies of receipts.

TACVB Professional Development Grant Program Applications must be submitted on or before March 25, 2016.
(Any unused scholarships will revert to the TACVB Professional Development Grant Fund.)




  1. I understand the minimum requirements for GPA and semester hour enrollment that the grant for which I am applying for requires. I further understand that failure to maintain required GPA and semester hour enrollment will revoke my eligibility for the grant for which I was selected.
  2. I understand the minimum requirements for professional development certification program enrollment. I further understand that failure to enroll and satisfactorily complete the professional development certification will revoke my eligibility for the grant for which I was selected.
  3. I understand that I must be employed by a TACVB member convention and visitor bureau, and must maintain employment at a TACVB member convention and visitor bureau throughout the period for which funds will be awarded. The TACVB Board of Directors will have sole discretion over any instance in which an applicant experiences a disruption in employment during the award period, including the option of disqualifying the applicant.
  4. I hereby acknowledge that the information submitted herewith is true and correct.
